Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to address an attempted murder charge connected with a shooting that took place in May, as his counsel entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Detention documents in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the National Football League, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has already lodged a written not guilty plea to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday early for a bond proceeding, Eiglarsh said.

As per his arrest document, Brown is alleged of grabbing a firearm from a security employee after a public figure match event in May and shooting a couple of bullets at a individual he had clashed with earlier. The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed police that one of the bullets grazed his nape.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was only protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was forced to take were purely in self-protection against the reported individual’s violent behavior. Brown was targeted that evening and behaved within his rightful privilege to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not immediately arrested because at first police did not consider Nantambu as a affected party. It only later in May that Nantambu gave a detailed statement about the situation to authorities and pointed out Brown as the shooter, the report states.

From his digital posts, Brown had been residing in Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the incident, Brown stated he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to take my jewelry and bring bodily damage to me.”

A level two attempted murder allegation in the state of Florida bears a maximum 15-year jail sentence and up to a ten thousand dollar penalty in the instance of a finding.

Brown has encountered numerous legal issues over the time. He before had been alleged of assault of a vehicle operator, several abuse accusations, neglect to pay parental support and other occurrences.

Throughout a recent game with the Buccaneers against the New York Jets, Brown took off his uniform, equipment and handwear and left the stadium, resulting in his termination by the franchise and effectively concluding his professional career.

Brown, who spent 12 years in the league, was an elite wide receiver who passed the bulk of his career with the Steelers. For his professional life, Brown had 928 receptions for above 12,291 yards, the 28th most of history. He was a multiple-time Pro Bowl choice.
